Listen Up: The Bones Mix Tape, Volume 6

Seeley Booth would never in a million years ‘fess up to liking a boy band. He’s that guy.

But he’s also this guy–

–and so help me, I will eat that bandana off of his head if you can convince me that Booth never identified with a single lovestruck lyric from these turn-of-the-millennium heartthrobs.  They’re BOY BANDS. Their whole job is to want love, which Booth does, and to maybe make the ladies a little crazy, which Booth also does. You know that “I love you so much it hurts” face? This is how it sounds.

B&B’s mix tape is about to get a little dirty pop.

“Tearin’ Up My Heart”–*N Sync

It’s tearin’ up my heart when I’m with you
But when we are apart, I feel it too
And no matter what I do, I feel the pain
With or without you
Baby I don’t understand
Just why we can’t be lovers
Things are getting out of hand
Trying too much, but baby we can’t win
Let it go
If you want me girl, let me know
I am down, on my knees
I can’t take it anymore

Baby don’t misunderstand
What I’m trying to tell you
In the corner of my mind
Baby, it feels like we’re running out of time

NONE OF US UNDERSTAND just why you can’t be lovers, you crazy kids. I mean, obviously “going for a different outcome” takes time and trust and friendship, and I wouldn’t trade those late nights at the Royal Diner for anything, but still—somewhere along the way, like every five or ten minutes or so, Booth must have worried that he was waiting too long.

truth in the lye bones

Hang in there, Booth. No pain, no Mighty Hut.

All In My Head”—Nick Lachey

Here alone holding on to something that I’ve never known
It’s all in my head
And I’ve crossed the line, there’s no going back and there’s no future
Tell me this isn’t happening
She said, she said, said she wants to marry me
It’s all in my head, that’s just not reality
It’s over, it’s over…
Here on earth, she don’t even wanna talk
There are no words
It’s out of my hands
So why, why
Tell me this isn’t happening.

You could argue that post-98 Degrees Nick Lachey isn’t really a boy band, but I’d be too busy with my coma dream feelings to notice. These lyrics are spot-on accurate for Booth’s alternate life with Brennan. And then the poor guy has to wake up and realize that he and Brennan aren’t married after all. It was all in his head. They don’t own a sexy nightclub, he doesn’t get to keep the clothes, and THIS is still a good two years away.

“True To Your Heart”—98 Degrees (feat. Stevie Wonder)

Baby, I knew at once
That you were meant for me
Deep in my soul I know
That I’m your destiny
Though you’re unsure
Why fight the tide
Don’t think so much
Let your heart decide
Baby, I see your future
And it’s tied to mine
I look in your eyes
And see you searching for a sign
But you’ll never fall
‘Til you let go
Don’t be scared
Of what you don’t know

Someone you know is on your side
Can set you free
I can do that for you
If you believe in me
Why second guess
What feels so right?
Just trust your heart
And you’ll see the light

Oh, STOP IT, 98 Degrees, with your perfectly-relevant-to-the-hundredth-episode lyrics. Booth is that guy. He knew right from the beginning, and he wants Brennan to let go, but she’s a scientist. She thinks so much and second guesses so much because she doesn’t want to lose what they have. She doesn’t think she has Booth’s kind of open heart, which pretty much proves that she does. Trust your heart, Brennan!

“What Makes You Different (Makes You Beautiful)”—Backstreet Boys

You don’t run with the crowd
You go your own way
You don’t play after dark
You light up my day
Got your own kind of style
That sets you apart
Baby, that’s why you captured my heart
I know sometimes you feel like you don’t fit in
And this world doesn’t know what you have within
When I look at you, I see something rare
A rose that can grow anywhere
And there’s no one I know that can compare
What makes you different makes you beautiful
What’s there inside you shines through to me
In your eyes I see all the love I’ll ever need
You’re all I need, oh girl
What makes you different makes you beautiful to me

Temperance Brennan is a superhero. She’s a genius superhero who stands up for the truth, tells it like it is, doesn’t care about impressing people of authority, and maybe punches some dudes in the face sometimes. She’s beautiful and rare and not like anyone Booth’s ever met before, and that’s why he loves her. That’s why we should ALL love her.

emily deschanel rock and rollSo is Booth a closet boy band member? What band?! Would Brennan side with *N Sync or BSB? And what songs (boy band or otherwise) would you add to B&B’s mix tape? Think about it, and, as always, enjoy the music.
